Our new flying site, the Wind Lake Turf sod farm, was a significant improvement over our previous site the Bong Recreation area which has become severely overgrown with tall weeds and trees. The day started out with some light rain in the early morning but by 9:30 -10 AM it had cleared up and the field dried up quickly. Throughout the day winds were light at 3-6 mph out of the N NE and at times dead calm ( as thermals were building) with pleasant temperatures in the low 70s. A N to NE wind direction is the best for this field as we could set up in the parking lot next to the Porta John, and use the 1400 ft. road for retrieval. Mike Kirda used this road for many flight retrievals with his new balloon tire electric bike. Mike Kirda who procured the Bong Eagles feather flag and Banner, setup these up at the contest site. Also, several of us wore the new Bong Eagles shirts of which John Warren designed and Mike also procured. Many thanks, John and Mike for your efforts on these items.

Joe Bartek won the embryo event with a score of 175 and had an outstanding thermal flight of 100 seconds. Jack Tisinai won both small and large rubber stick events. Unfortunately, Jack lost his Korda class C tractor model in a monster thermal even though it had dethermalized. This Korda stick design is documented in the 1937 Zaic yearbook and is an outstanding flyer. Mike was test flying his Bud Romak Dominator Mulvihill design and on one flight his GSP measured a climb altitude of 150 meters and an assent altitude of 250 meters before Mike hit the RDT which brought it down in an adjacent sod farm field. Many thanks to Jim Annis for all the contest photos, setting up his canopy for the scoring table, and helping with model retrieval. All had a great time flying and having conversations with fellow modelers whom are all passionate about the same hobby..
