Safety – COVID

Bong Eagles Safety policy

Flying is conducted safely with attention to the AMA Safety Code:

and to specific event related safety rules, such as:

Maintaining a safe distance from spectators to the launch line for I/C or electric powered free flight planes

Keeping catapult launched gliders in a designated launch “pen” away from spectators, whenever the number of flyers requires it, at the discretion of the contest director.

Bong Eagles COVID-19 Precautions

The Bong Eagles are continuing to follow COVID-19 guidance from local health officials and the CDC as we begin to consider and plan events for 2021 and 2022, so that we safeguard the health of our members in the face of this pandemic.  This includes conducting monthly meetings virtually on Zoom.  Notice of the meetings and credentials for attending them are sent to members by e-mail.  An Outdoor Contest has been held at the Bong Recreation Area in 2021 where COVID precautions, including masking and social distancing, were observed.  We hope that the combination of outdoor environment and precautions will make a safe repeat of that possible in 2022.  Memorial Hall at Racine has re-opened, at least temporarily, as long as COVID-19 precautions, including mask wearing, are maintained. An Indoor Contest was held in 2020 at the former Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL, over the Columbus Day weekend, where the size of the space and the maintenance of COVID precautions allowed a safe event.  We hope that we can repeat such an event in 2021.

Precautions mandated by the Department of Natural Resources of Wisconsin at the Bong Recreation area are available at:
