Contest Summary
Kent State University’s Field House in Ohio was a fine Category II site for an indoor meet, at 49 feet ceiling height. Participation by 19 Adult pilots and 13 Youth made for some lively competition. The most efficient and cordial Contest Director, Don Slusarczyk, only flew in the Jetco R.O.G. One-Design event, but his 4 minute flight with this simple plane led the field of five.
There were 9 fliers in the “World Cup” F1D event, but many had flown on the World stage at the Salt Mine in Romania. Brett Sanborn, who took 2d place in Romania this year, took first place at Kent with a National Record flight of 25:29 for this Category. Kang Lee, who was this year’s Champion in Romania, had a 25:24 flight, but his aggregate score for 2 flights was 58 seconds behind Brett. Emily Guyette, who was a Youth pilot at Romania in 2022, took 3d place. Her best flight time was 24:47.
The Limited Penny Plane event had the most entrants, with 6 adults, 6 Senior Youth and 3 Junior Youth. Three adults posted times over 10 minutes. There were 6 Youth pilots posting times between 9:16 and 9:39. Of the 5 adults and 2 Youth flying A-6 planes, Hamish Christie had the best time of 9:08, a National Record for this Category site. Best flight of the 8 Ministick planes was posted by Tom Sova, with 9:44.
One Bong Eagle, Joe B., was entered and flew in Jetco R.O.G., LPP, F1L, A-6 and Ministick. His LPP, from a Josh Finn “Incentsitivity” kit, his own design F1L, and his Jetco R.O.G. all managed to reach the vicinity of the ceiling, but times were not remarkable.
