Two Bong Eagles / FAC Lightning Aces #38 members flew at the FAC Midwest Outdoor Champs held at the AMA HQ IAC field in Muncie, IN, on September 10 & 11. Events scheduled are shown on the Flier ( 2026 FAC Midwest Outdoor Champs Flier ). Weather was generally flyable. with clouds and light winds Thursday morning until a shower early in the Afternoon. On Friday, skys were clearer in the morning, but winds became strong enough to push an Embryo sized plane quite far. Joe B. flew in AMA P-30 (BMJR Kiwi P-30) and NBM Embryo (BMJR Anna Jr.). He built the 2026 One-Design plane, the Wright WP-1 ( a variation of the Dornier Falke parasol wing monoplane pursuit of 1922 ), but did not make an official flight. Harrison K. also competed, in Dime scale as well as other events. Results will be posted in the November – December FAC Newsletter as usual.
As usual, Mass Launches are the visual high light of the Outdoor Champs,
Thursday Mass Launches – WWI and Low Wing Trainer

Friday Mass Launches – Thompson Trophy and National Air Races

Joe B.’s Planes
One flight with the Kiwi P -30 caught a Thermal and lasted 230 seconds. A real cloud chaser! The other two flights were much less spectacular. The best flight of the Anna Jr Embryo (60 seconds) resulted in a hard to see landing because of the wind. All planes were recovered.
Joe’s Wright Pursuit, shown ready to wind, did not make an official flight. The 7 inch prop and 4 strands of 3/32 rubber might be giving too much torque for this Dime-Scale plane.
