Indoor Flying for the 2025-2026 Season available in Burr Ridge, IL

Fun Flys in 2025
The first Fun Fly of the summer, open to Bong Eagles with M.A.R.K.S. club membership, at the Burmeister Road Site, formerly Wind Lake Turf Farms, was held on June 14. The Wind Lake Turf Farm site on Burmeister Road has been sold to the neighboring farm, Jasperson Sod Farms, but thanks to arrangements made by the M.A.R.K.S. club, Bong Eagles will still be able to hold events there. 2025 Sod Farm Ownership Change
Club Outdoor Contests for 2025
We will continue to have our two club contests at the Burmeister Road Site for 2025. One difference: We have moved to Saturdays. The impetus for this is simple: Sunday will be our ‘rain day’ if the weather for Saturday is poor.

The 2025 Midwest Indoor Championships will be held by the Northern Ohio Free Flight Assn. on 5/17-5/18/2025 at the Kent State University Field House in Kent, Ohio.

Midwest FAC Outdoor Champs at Muncie, IN, September 26 & 27
Detroit Cloudbusters are sponsoring this annual contest at the AMA Headquarters. AMA P-30 and OT Stick and Fuselage competitions are included.

INDOOR FLYING AT MEMORIAL HALL IN RACINE, WI
We were unable to reserve Memorial Hall in 2024, for Indoor flying. Memorial Hall personnel have quoted a prohibitive $1600 per event. Attendance at indoor flying is insufficient to cover this rental.
Time had been from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Central Time on the first Wednesday of the month. Contact Contest Director Jeff Annis ( jeannis@aol.com ) if you have information about possible alternative sites.
Over the years, many Science Olympiad students have flown with us, generally coming from Milwaukee and the northern Chicago area. We are unable to continue inviting these students. For alternative arrangements contact the Contest Director.

2024 Winter Flight Fest at EAA Museum, Oshkosh, WI, on February 9-11, 2024
Contest was a success with 12 flyers entered. One design contests were for “Stringless Wonders” in Stock and Expert categories and for “Big Smash” P-18 class planes. Best times for Stringless Wonders were around 90 seconds

Midwest Indoor Free Flight Events in Spring 2024
Flyers for the Jim Richmond Indoor Open Contest (April 13-15, 2024) at West Baden Springs, Indiana, and the Midwest Indoor Championships at Kent State University, Ohio (May 25-27, 2024) are available at: 2024 Midwest Spring Indoor Free Fight Meets Flyers A one-design plane was selected for the Kent State Contest. 2024 Wasp Online Indoor Postal Contest
The Wasp is a 10.5″ span rubber powered model that was published in the January 1942 issue of Aeromodeller and copied in the Jan-Feb 2024 issue of the Flying Aces Club Newsletter. Wasps were successfully flown at the EAA Flight Fest. Times to be submitted by April 30, 2024 by e-mail. There are two Memorial Hall flying dates before then. 2024 Sky Battle Postal Contest for Simple Free Flight Planes
Window for flying these R.O.G. (Rise Off Ground) simple planes for the contest is April 26 to May 5. They need not be flown at a club site, so pick your own field, maybe a Park, if local rules allow. 2023 Bong Eagles Holiday Lunch Flyer
EAA Flight Fest at EAA Museum, Oshkosh, WI, on February 10-12, 2023
Event was a success. Participation was fine, with 22 flyers, including some from Ohio and Colorado. Bong Eagles were able to help the EAA introduce the public to the joy of flying on Saturday. There were about 700 attendees from the public. The One-Design event this year was for the “Boxy Bipe”. This simple plane was designed by Bill Hannan, who contributed the “Hannan’s Hangar” column to “Model Builder” Magazine. A link to the plans, both as tiled for 8.5X11 and without tiling for 11X17 papers, is given below. A link to the results of the contest and a summary is given below. Another link shows pictures of the event.
Dates have been chosen for next February’s EAA Flight Fest, and a new set of plans for the one design plane will appear shortly.

2023 Jim Richmond Open at West Baden Springs, IN – April 1-3
Event was well attended as pilots took advantage of the expansive Category III site, ideal for the large planes in the FAI’s F1D class. Planes in the AMA P-18 class, like the “Big Smash”, also flew up to the high ceiling. Rey Mazzocco, the Contest Director, has provided a list of results and a summary Report of the contest.

The Bong Eagles are partnering with MARKS R/C club ( http://www.marksrcclub.com/ ) for access to their flying site at the Wind Lake Turf sod farm in Wind Lake, Wisconsin. Access to this site requires that we also be members of the MARKS R/C club. This is important. Flying there is restricted to MARKS club members EXCEPT when flying in our contests. MARKS Membership form is available at: 2023 MARKS Membership Form
Fun Flys
We are also had three Fun Fly dates. No contest, no worries, just come out and fly. Fun Fly dates require you to be a MARKS member to fly.
